F&O Vol 2 Issue 7 2020

Installing mandatory cameras onboard commercial vessels has been discussed widely in New Zealand since the regulation was first passed in 2017 by the previous government. Over the three-year period, it has been delayed numerous times, and the latest one saw the deadline being pushed to late 2021. In our cover story, we take an in-depth look at the issue.

And while the government has been delaying rolling out cameras, we have businesses like Better Fishing who’ve taken things in their own hand. Karl Warr, a commercial fisherman, has installed a camera on his vessel and live-streams it to his website. Read his story to find out more.

We also cover the latest fishing restrictions that were put in place to protect Hector’s and Māui dolphins and also look at the Arms Legislation Bill that was recently passed in the Parliament.

As always, we have some great giveaways lined up, and this month, thanks to The Safety Warehouse, we have a 3-in-1 leisure jacket to give away.
