Three mates from Tauranga (pictured above, from left: Scott Clark, Jackson Currie, and Todd Morris) have developed a new social media app aiming to connect skippers with new fishing buddies. Named Fishily, the app was launched globally on 1 February 2024 and has since then registered 2000 users.

The app links anglers with boat owners who are keen to make new friends on the water. The idea came about after neighbours Todd Morris and Scott Clarke chatted at a barbecue about all the neighbourhood boats that seemed to sit in the driveway more than they did on the water. So they got together with local software engineer Jackson Currie to create the app.

We talk to Todd to find out more about the app.

In other news, DOC’s annual hunting competition kicked off on 16 March and will continue until the prizegiving at the DOC Pureora Field Base on 28 April, Sealord confirms the purchase of Independent Fisheries, and F&O’s Tony Orman recounts a hunting tale highlighting the importance of caution and preparedness amidst the excitement of the hunt.

Plus, this month, we have five fabulous books up for grabs, so make you enter the competition.

We’ll be back next month, but in the meantime, you can follow us on Facebook and Instagram for the latest updates.
