In a significant development, Forest & Bird and the Fiordland Wapiti Foundation have agreed to pause legal proceedings concerning the management agreement with the Department of Conservation (DOC) over the Fiordland wapiti herd. This pause aims to facilitate discussions for a mutually beneficial management strategy. 

The agreement, which permits the Wapiti Foundation to manage deer numbers and conduct conservation work, faced legal scrutiny from Forest & Bird for potentially conflicting with the National Parks Act.
