This month, we take a closer look at the new funding round announced by the New Zealand Government that will focus on reducing emissions from the maritime sector.

With fuel use in this sector accounting for almost 10% of total transport emissions, the need for a transition to electric-powered water transport has become increasingly apparent. As a result, the latest transport fund will aim to develop commercial maritime projects with an electrification focus.

With up to $2.5 million available, this funding round presents an opportunity for the maritime sector to reduce its carbon footprint and contribute towards a more sustainable future.

In other news, entries for the Seafood Sustainability Awards 2023 are now open, a drone monitoring project to protect Māui dolphins was given the green light, and a special hunting season for paradise shellduck was announced.
